Alaska Coastal Management Program: Federal, State or Regional Control?

In March of 2012, we presented a forum on this important topic. It is off the radar of most Alaskans, but is something we should all learn about. The presenters at our event were Glenn Gray and Bill Jeffress, both of whom have extensive experience and knowledge on this topic. We appreciate them sharing the evening, and their expertise, with us.

As a reminder of the importance of this topic, Alaska's coastline is an area that exceeds the combined coastlines of all the other states (including Hawaii): 6640 miles vs. 5839 miles.

The Future of ACES

ACES, Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share, is Alaska's tax on oil revenues, and it is a very hot topic during this cold winter. In January of 2012, we packed the house as Alaskans turned out during a blinding snowstorm to learn about ACES and what it means to the future of Alaska.

If you missed the ACES debate but want to see the presentations, they are posted here on our website. Well worth your time, as oil taxes are the primary source of revenue for the state of Alaska.

Alaska 2012 Elections

All but one of Alaska's legislators will need to stand for re-election this fall due to redistricting. As a result, our state will be in full-scale campaign mode for the rest of 2012. If you want to make a difference, volunteering with a campaign is a very rewarding activity. If you don't have the time to volunteer, then any funds you can donate will be well-received. Remember, all politics is local!

The Anchorage Tea Party is happy to post information and events for Alaska candidates on our website. While not endorsing these candidates, we want to give our members the opportunity to see who is running, what they stand for, and how we can make a difference.
